Sep 17: Mexican Independence Day

Shanghai producer Laughing Ears and Yunnan blind violin virtuoso Zhang Zheyuan will team up on Tuesday, September 17 for a genre-bending collaborative performance at ALL Club. And guess what? It’s free. Take out your best pair of shoes, your favorite blue suede socks and have your fanciest dancing shorts at the ready for this one.

Sep 19: That’s Shanghai Food and Drink Awards

It's that time of the year again, time to submit your nominees for the 17th edition of the That's Shanghai Food & Drink Awards! Just like every year, readers can nominate their favorite restaurants, bars, chefs, cafes, mixologists and more. The event will take place at UP Shanghai on September 19. We’ve already got some exciting things in store for this year’s party, including desserts  from A&M Cupcakery, beer and cider from Zapfler, water from S.Pellegrino and plenty more!

China’s only international art fair devoted to the photographic medium is returning for a sixth year this next month. Photofairs is back bigger and bolder than ever, with plenty in store for fans of visual arts over the course of three days, from September 20-22. The 2019 edition will feature works by well-known names such as Marina Abramovic, Yang Fudong, Vivian Maier and Robert Mapplethorpe, while the winner of the newly-introduced Exposure Award, Noémie Goudal from Galerie Les Filles du Calvaire will exhibit alongside commendations from the award’s judges, including submissions from Morocco, New York and Beijing. Until September 18, you can get standard daily tickets for the reduced price of RMB98 (RMB125 after Sep 18) and VIP tickets for RMB580 (RMB620 after Sep 18).

Sep 21: Steve Hughes Live In Shanghai

Internationally renowned Australian stand-up comedian Steve Hughes is coming to Shanghai! Hughes tells it like it is – confronting, alarming and always hilarious. The convict wizard with worldly insights into the bleeding obvious comes armed with more issues than an occupy movement. The inimitable ex-heavy metal drummer has been burning up the international circuit for the past 10 years, he has toured throughout Europe, Australia, USA, Canada and New Zealand to rave reviews and mutinous laughter.
